While this is a blog focused on the development of ChoicePunch.com, we want to bring attention to the campaign to stop “pink slime” being added to our ground beef.

ChoicePunch wants a healthy world and so does fresh&easy.
Tomorrow, March 28th, fresh&easy, a grocery retailer in California, Arizona, and Nevada will be doing a “Swap Meat” - where you can turn in your beef from other grocery stores for their “slime-free” ground beef. It’s a great cause.

The “oh, I have an idea” period of a startup is a fantastic time. It’s the time where an idea is formed, developed, and the founder figures out who to bring along for the ride. These are energy filled moments. The excitement of what could be and how quickly you can show the world.
Then, you have to actually start working. No longer are ideas enough. You know have to evaluate every new idea, does it make sense, how can we pull it off, and so forth.
But, getting to a point where you are making those types of evaluations on any new idea is absolutely critical to success and speed to market.
You have to know when to stop integrating new ideas into version 1 unless it’s a game changer.
Our experience is that your ideas tend to get more refined and better over time. So, there will be a meeting where 10 great ideas are shared, and as a team, you have to decide, do we need this? And, do we need this now?
Certainly, no one wants to have an inferior product on the market, but as Mark Zuckerberg puts it, “done is better than perfect.” It’s an important point. Even the biggest & best tech companies realize products not 100% polished, but they iterate, and make changes to improve.
This is one of the biggest challenges for any startup. Deciding what core ideas power the company, and what new ideas can be filed away for version 2.
Don’t be afraid to set aside for version 2 though. Record every idea, good or bad. Understand the idea’s implications. Also, keep in mind, depending on how your first set of users respond, you may have to change gears altogether.
Be nimble. Be open to new ideas. But, understand that perfection is something rarely achieved in version 1 with any new startup or business. Do your best, but move quick.
In this crazy startup world, there are so many new and exciting startups that don’t get enough attention. Luckily, DollarShaveClub.com wasn’t going to be one of them. Much respect and a great video. Watch & enjoy.
